About Take Time To Think: A new safer gambling campaign

Take Time To Think is a national campaign to encourage the routine use of gambling tools as part of a safe and responsible gambling experience. It is aimed at everyone across the country who bets, plays or gambles online or in arcades, betting shops, bookmakers, bingo halls and casinos.

Take Time To Think follows on from the longstanding When The Fun Stops, Stop campaign.

It is managed by the Betting and Gaming Council; the standards body for the majority of the regulated UK betting and gaming industry.

Take Time To Think: Frequently asked questions
What is Take Time To Think?

Take Time To Think is a national campaign to encourage the routine use of gambling tools as part of a safe and responsible gambling experience. It is aimed at everyone across the country who bets, plays or gambles online or in arcades, betting shops, bookmakers, bingo halls and casinos.

What safer gambling tools can I use and where can I find them?

All licensed operators must offer players a range of safer gambling tools. The main ones are listed on our homepage and include the options to set deposit limits, set time limits, cool off and self-exclude to stay in control.

All betting, gaming and gambling websites work slightly differently, but you can find the tools by looking in the safer / responsible gambling section of operator websites.

Who manages Take Time To Think?

The campaign was a commitment made by the industry, in consultation with independent organisations and backed by consumer research, to back safer gambling.

What is the Betting and Gaming Council?

The Betting and Gaming Council is the standards body for the majority of the regulated UK betting and gaming industry, excluding the National Lottery. The organisation works with its members to drive high ethical standards, create a culture of safer betting and gaming and build public and institutional trust.

How can I find out what other steps are being taken to encourage safer gambling?

The Betting and Gaming Council has worked with members to publish five key safer gambling commitments. The most recent safer gambling initiatives are also outlined on The Betting and Gaming Council website.

How does Take Time To Think work with other safer gambling campaigns?

Take Time To Think follows on from the longstanding When The Fun Stops, Stop campaign. While a separate campaign, it builds on the themes of reflection from the Bet Regret campaign run by BeGambleAware, a campaign targeted at young males who are frequent sports bettors. We wanted this campaign to incorporate a wider audience, which is why Take Time To Think has incorporated best practice in safer gambling to do so.
